Mr. Sean Burke

SCHOOL SAFETY ADVOCACY COUNCIL
Sean Burke holds a Bachelors of Arts in Human Services
from Springfield College and a Masters of Science in Administration
of Criminal Justice from Western New England College. Sean Burke
served as the first Director of Public Safety for the Lawrence
Public School’s Police / Safety Department where he coordinated
all safety efforts, including the creation of their comprehensive
school crisis plan, which serves as a model in the nation today. Sean
Burke has over eighteen years law enforcement experience, serving
as a patrol officer, patrol supervisor, sexual assault and gang
investigator. Sean is currently the commanding supervisor over
a School Community Safety Unit for an urban police department
in Massachusetts.
Sean Burke is considered one of the foremost experts
in school safety and youth violent behavior. He has traveled extensively
and spoken before police officers and school personnel from the
United States, Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean. Sean has
been quoted as an expert source in media journals from across the
nation, for his work in school based policing. Sean is the
former President of the National Association of School Resource
Officers (NASRO) where he also served as a National Practitioner
and a Senior Instructor for over 10 years. In 2004 Burke
was awarded a Life Membership from NASRO in recognition of his
work in the field of school safety. He serves as a grant review
specialist and subject matter expert for the United States Department
of Justice, National Institute of Justice in the area of law enforcement
and school safety and is a member of their national school safety
technology committee.
Sean Burke currently serves as the President of the
School Safety Advocacy Council and continues to travel, speak and
consult for many governmental and non-governmental organizations. |
